CBS Siegelman report blacked out in Alabama
Strange coincidence, but WHNT, the local CBS affiliate in Huntsville AL which covers the northern part of the state, had "technical problems" during the Siegelman segment of 60 Minutes tonight. They showed a black screen for the first 12 to 13 minutes of the show, including most of the Siegelman story. The station said the problem was at its end and blamed it on a failed satellite receiver.
They caught a lot of flack from viewers and did rebroadcast that segment in its entirety at about 10:20 pm.

BS. I find it next to impossible to believe that even if the primary receiver failed, that a CBS affiliate didn't have a secondary receiver tuned to the feed and ready to hot key to air in case of such a failure. Even the smallest UHF stations I've worked for had backups. 15-30 seconds in black I could buy....this, I can't.
Woohoo! I'm famous. Glad you folks picked up on this. WHNT aired the segment again this evening during an abbreviated 6 pm newscast.
I'm sure the blackout has resulted in a lot more media attention and more people hearing about this than if the 60 Minutes broadcast had gone off without a hitch. The local ABC affiliate did a story on it tonight and I expect it to be in the Huntsville Times tomorrow.
