unsurprising, given that the base consolidations over the last decades have consistently moved troops from north to south. the upside for the south was more federal dollars propping up the southern economies. the downside is that communities dependent on the military suffer when the military is fighting.

and of course, I have no doubt that these sad facts will be used to prop up southern white hyper-patriotism and grievance culture.
