Virginia rejects minimum wage hike

From the Washington Post, the Virginia legislature rejected a proposed state minimum wage increase to $6.15 per hour, leaving the current federal minimum wage standard of $5.15 in place. According to the article, 18 other states have implemented their own higher minimum wage.

Money quote: "I can't look at a family anymore and say work is a path out of homelessness," said Thaler McCormick, executive director of ForKids.

Runner-up: [Republican Del. Vincent F. Callahan Jr.] said it would send a message to low-paid workers: "They'll continue to be low-paid."

When even Republicans are ashamed of wages in their state, you know something's wrong.
