I've been thinking about kayaking out to the Hiwassee refuge to see sandhills up close...But I was in Tampa this week and they they were, walking around in a shopping center ignoring all the traffic.
Where's you find this heron? I'm guessing near a Florida hammock from the foliage. Or maybe alongside a canal?
This was taken (along with all the other recent Florida bird photos) at the Merrit Island Wildlife Refuge near the Kennedy Space Center. Next time you're down there it is definitely worth a visit. There's a seven mile loop (well maintained dirt road) so its sort of like a Cades Cove of Florida.
