NC poll: Military and public turning against Bush, Iraq war

A new poll finds trouble for President Bush -- and especially his Iraq war policy -- in North Carolina, which advertises itself on billboards as "the nation's most military-friendly state":
More than half of North Carolina military members surveyed in the latest Elon University poll disapprove of President Bush's handling of the war in Iraq and his overall job performance.

"We see that those most involved in the Iraq situation, the military, are not so different from the general public after all and share the same concerns about Iraq," said Hunter Bacot, the poll's director.
The poll shows that North Carolinians, especially military families, are turning against the Iraq war in a big way:
More than 56 percent of military members surveyed in an Elon University poll said they disapprove or strongly disapprove with how the president is running the war.

51 percent of those surveyed said the U.S. should not be in Iraq, while 43 percent agreed with U.S. involvement in Iraq.

More than 51 percent of military members said they did not know if the war was worth fighting. Roughly 29 percent said the war was not worth it and 19 percent said it was.
When only 19% of military members feel a war is worth it, isn't it time to be thinking about getting out?

The numbers for Bush's general performance were similarly grim. Only 41% of those polled approved of Bush's handling of the job of president.

The world knows bush and his cabinet of yes people all lied about the facts to invade Iraq.

How much more proof do you have to read, bush own month made the statements, he wanted and had the cooked information to invade Iraq. Yes those who lied and cover ups the scandal of war lies and the Sept. 11 all of this should be brought out and the truth shall prevail, trust will then become the focus of bringing our country back to freedom, trust, truth.

The bottom line is bush made the call to
invade regardles of the facts, he must be held accountable for the millions of lives lost.

Terror bush created all of this including his buddies
Cheney, Rumsfeldt, Rove, Rice, Libby I hope they all get brought to face the world court . Impeach all of them
we cannot have a government run by phoney christian leadership bush is not a christian but a devil.

While I agree with your statement generally, I feel compelled to mention that, although the loss of life in the Iraq War is terrible, it doesn't approach one million, let alone several.

Even the highest estimates put coalition casualties at under 3,000 and Iraqi casualties (insurgent and innocent citizens) at under 300,000.

Again, I agree that Bush must and his cohorts must be held accountable for their crimes against the men and women who serve in our armed forces, the people of Iraq, the citizens of the United States, and the rest of the world.

No two ways about it - Bush is a phoney, and a devil. When people are too busy wearing religion on their sleeves, they don't carry it in their heart. Follow the money - that is what the Bush administration does. Onward Christian Phonies. Gag.

this is regarding james moore, author of "bush's brain"

James Moore is an Emmy-winning former television news correspondent and the co-author of the bestselling, Bush's Brain: How Karl Rove Made George W. Bush Presidential. He has been writing and reporting from Texas for the past 25 years on the rise of Rove and Bush and has traveled extensively on every presidential campaign since 1976.
This author was placed on the no fly list. Two points: there's nothing you or I can do to help him but make this public, and two- we are all targets here.
**********************************************************
This week last year I was preparing for a trip to Ohio to conduct interviews and research for a new book I was writing. My airline tickets had been purchased on line and the morning of departure I went to the Internet to print out my boarding pass. I got a message that said, "Not Allowed." Several subsequent tries failed. Surely, I thought, it's just a glitch within the airline's servers or software.

I made it a point to arrive very early at the airport. My reservation was confirmed before I left home. I went to the electronic kiosk and punched in my confirmation number to print out my boarding pass and luggage tags. Another error message appeared, "Please see agent."

I did. She took my Texas driver's license and punched in the relevant information to her computer system.
"I'm sorry, sir," she said. "There seems to be a problem. You've been placed on the No Fly Watch List."
"Excuse me?"
"I'm afraid there isn't much more that I can tell you," she explained. "It's just the list that's maintained by TSA to check for people who might have terrorist connections."
"You're serious?"
"I'm afraid so, sir. Here's an 800 number in Washington. You need to call them before I can clear you for the flight."

Exasperated, I dialed the number from my cell, determined to clear up what I was sure was a clerical error. The woman who answered offered me no more information than the ticket agent.

"Mam, I'd like to know how I got on the No Fly Watch List."
"I'm not really authorized to tell you that, sir," she explained after taking down my social security and Texas driver's license numbers.
"What can you tell me?"
"All I can tell you is that there is something in your background that in some way is similar to someone they are looking for."

"Well, let me get this straight then," I said. "Our government is looking for a guy who may have a mundane Anglo name, who pays tens of thousands of dollars every year in taxes, has never been arrested or even late on a credit card payment, is more uninteresting than a Tupperware party, and cries after the first two notes of the national anthem? We need to find this guy. He sounds dangerous to me."
"I'm sorry, sir, I've already told you everything I can."
"Oh, wait," I said. "One last thing: this guy they are looking for? Did he write books critical of the Bush administration, too?"

I have been on the No Fly Watch List for a year. I will never be told the official reason. No one ever is. You cannot sue to get the information. Nothing I have done has moved me any closer to getting off the list. There were 35,000 Americans in that database last year. According to a European government that screens hundreds of thousands of American travelers every year, the list they have been given to work from has since grown to 80,000.

I am beginning to think that during the election to re elect bush I was somewhere with my head stuck in a hole I could not like many Americans see that Saddam had no creditable link to terrorist I like so many other Americans just wanted someone to pay for the evil that was done to our country on 9/11 and the lives that were lost. I now know that bush had warning before 9/11 and could have help to prevent the whole nightmare, I also know that Bush had much to gain from what happened on 9/11 he could pull the wool over the Americans eyes and head toward a war that post 9/11 we would have never stood for. I know now that our government knew that 2 of the terrorist where in this country and had connections to the bombing of the USS cole and they were allowed to come and go from this country at free will and they were allowed to run planes into the world trade center. Bush and Chaney fought against having a 9/11 commission why would you do that if you had nothing to hide why would you fight a committee designed to investigate an attack on American soil all of the money that was spent fight this since less war that many Americans were fooled into should have been spent on homeland security and making sure that we are safe and ready for the next attack but know we financed Bush’s own oil deal at a high price. I am saddened and sickened by the bush administration and I think that he and his cohorts should be held accountable for the actions that placed this country in danger. Rice said we did not think we needed to worry about the sleeper cells when the sleepers cells involve know terrorist running free in America what the hell is there not to worry about. This war changed names so many times from the beginning it went from finding weapons of mass destruction, to finding terrorist, to free Iraq it should be named Bush’s OIL DEAL I do not agree with the things or the man that Saddam was in any way but going in to free his people from him is not our job it is the job of the people of that country to rise above and fight to be free. Just like it is up to the Americans to stand up and take back control of this country. I was amazed that Bush granted all of Bin Ladens family located in the US immunity by allowing the to safely be flown to Saudi Arabia if you or I would have had a family member that had something to do with the world trade center tragedy would be granted immunity? No! It is sick to think what goes on in that mans head can he honestly sleep at night knowing what he has done all for personnel gain If he is not brought to justice by the justice system in this country he will surely be brought to justice when he spends time in hell.

Even for the cost of one american life they should be arrested and held for war crimes. After seeing the movie "Why we Fight" i feel it needs to be done, even more before he drops a bomb on one of or citys then blames iran.
