Offsets

The right-wing "porkbusters" are looking for programs to eliminate in order to pay for the Katrina/Rita disaster, i.e. "offsets." Of course, the usual suspects such as funding for PBS, Amtrak, the National Endowment for the Arts, etc. are at the top of the list.

My question is, where were the "porkbusters" and their search for "offsets" when taxpayers were being asked to pony up $200 billion for rebuilding Iraq?

Though it appears that pork is in the eye of the beholder. The peeps in congress aren't willing to give up a dime... though the only specific suggestions that I've seen is for transportation projects... It's always someone elses pork that qualifies as pork.

What a lovely opportunity for liberals to turn the tables and shame the republicans into offering up some of their own programs by providing bold leadership.
