More on the PLAN

Still en route back to the sunny South, after a two-day stay in not-so-sunny (but still beautiful) Seattle for the Progressive Legislative Action Network gathering.

For those wanting more info on what the PLAN festivities were all about: the AP had a short piece yesterday, and NPR had some coverage today (a short print story here, and an audio file here). The Northwest Progressive Institute also has this recap.

So what do you think? What will it take for progressives to win power in the South and successfully push a progressive agenda?

We're going to have to stop being afraid of religion and convince people that Progressive values ARE Christian values. I'm not Christian, but I understand the importance it plays in the lives of people here in Kentucky and I'm sure in the rest of the South. We need Progressive Christian leaders to step forward and remind people that Jesus talked about love, peace, caring for the poor and the sick. He would be horrified by the war-mongering, money-grubbing, hateful and selfish values being advanced in the name of Christianity, and we need to put that front and center if we're going to bring the average Southerner in our direction.

Take on Wal-Mart! They're undermining the country, community by community. If we can challenge them we can take on anybody. Fair jobs and real development for all! By the way check out WallMartWatch: walmartwatch.com
