DeLayed Apology
OK, sorry, no more lame puns. At least I don’t go in for exterminator jokes.
Anyway, DeLay did apologize for his recent remarks threatening judges whose rulings in the Terri Schiavo case he didn’t like. Well, sort of. Okay, he didn’t really apologize for what he said—just for saying it too fervently:

"Sometimes I get a little more passionate, particularly the moment and the day that Terri Schiavo was starved to death," he said.One thing you can say for DeLay: he can take the heat much better than Trent Lott, who melted like butter. DeLay has been assailed on more fronts than Lott ever was, yet he still grimly hangs on. And it’s nearly impossible to imagine DeLay going through all the contortions Lott did.
DeLay added that his criticism was expressed “in an inartful way and (I) should not have said it that way and I apologize for saying it that way.”
There’s also this non-apology from John Cornyn:
I regret it that my remarks have been taken out of context to create a wrong impression about my position, and possibly be construed to contribute to the problem rather than to a solution.

I can't find a link to the quote right now, but later in his remarks he said something like
"We set the courts. We can unset them. We have the power of the purse."
I guess DeLay's concept of an independent judiciary is different from most folks' understanding of the phrase.
